Faaker See 2015 Week 4

Monday 21.09.15 Faaker see 2015

Had a nice easy ride to Dresden this morning and checked into yet another posh apartment with the help of "booking.com. We have noticed the border controls have been getting tighter and getting back into Germany the police were pulling quite a few wagons over and I thought we may get a pull as we could have smuggled at least one refugee in the amount of baggage we were carrying. Anyway we have had a good look round and both agree that Dresden is a lovely city. It was completely flattened during the War and has been completely rebuild. We are dining in tonight but will push the boat out tomorrow and dine out and get some euros spent.

Browny tours packed it in today starting with a quick trip on Bertha to visit Moritzburg castle which is set in the middle of a beautiful lake. It was then back to Dresden to climb to the top of Frauenkirche Church and find it hard to believe that rebuilding work didn't start until 1990 and was completed in 2005, the views from the top were amazing. We then had guided tour inside the Opera house which had a very bad start in life. It was built in 1841 and burnt to the ground 4 weeks later, then rebuilt in 1878 only to get bombed in the 2nd world war, it was then rebuilt in 1985. Inside was amazing and tickets can sell as much as for 230 Euros per show. After that we visited the Dresden vehicle museum which was a lot better value than the one in Austria. Now relaxing on the balcony with pre-dinner drinks and writing the blog.

Left a wet Dressden this morning and had a long boring ride on the autobahn to Hannover which was also on the damp side when we arrived. We didn't arrive until late as we spotted a Harley Dealer which warranted a call and just left us enough time for a couple of sights and food and drink shop.

That's another 150 euros spent

I'm not a lover of modern buildings but I do like this one
I wouldn't like to clean the windows on this office / apartment block

Forgot to say the Hotel we have checked into has a free well stocked mini bar so that will be empty in the morning.

Thursday 24.09.15 Faaker see 2015

Had a nice ride to Rotterdam other than getting drenched during the last hour. Now onboard and in the Leyden suite and have already had a glass of champagne on the sun deck. Can't believe a month has gone so quick and we shall have to read the blog ourselves to help us remember what we got up to.

A bit of. Weather protection before the rain sets in
Not 1st in the queue this time
Cheers

Friday 25.09.15 Faaker see 2015

Well it's all over. Arrived home safe and sound which is the most important and secondly had a fantastic time with just short of 3,000 miles under our belt

My opinion and tips

Roads have been great and whilst we have seen a few accidents the motorist have been very good and lane discipline is excellent. On the autobahn You can be traveling at 80 miles an hour and a car will fly past you doing at least 120

Hotels

We have had some fantastic hotels on our trip. I don't pre-book any but do my research and have them programmed in TomTom. Also when we know we are approaching some cities or places we want to stay I will book the day before using booking. Com

Eating out

I don't think we are tight arse's but sometimes think eating out is abit over rated and very expensive. If your in a nice hotel with balcony and beautiful views or even better an apartment why not eat in as there are plenty of take aways and supermarkets to hand. Also as we have been away for some 26 days I reckon we have saved around £2,000.00 ( hmm maybe we are tight arse's ).

Summary

It has been a few years since we have rode in Europe and have had a superb time and had forgot how nice it was and will defiantly be planning another trip. So watch this space

Faaker see 2015 week 3

Monday 14.09.15 Faaker see 2015

Not much to report today as it's been mainly on the road 6hrs to be exact. We left in rain but ended up frying this afternoon. For those who know Pam she has a weak bladder and needs plenty of wee stops and in Austria it costs 50cents but you get that back in the form of a voucher to spend at any motorway service so before leaving Austria I filled up with fuel and got 1/2 a tank free on Pam. We had planned to stop at Heviz but decided to move further on to reduce tomorrow's journey to Budapest. We have now checked in at a very nice place called Siofok in Hungary it has its own wellness centre and evening meal and breakfast ( Joanne and that includes my dinner for tomorrow ) all for 46,209.00 Hungarian Forint, which is £108.00. It would have been nice just to get here a little earlier but I blame Pam for her comfort stops.

It's amazing how the scenery changes in each country
Not as wealthy as Austrians
A well deserved dip
Lake Balaton

Tuesday 15.09.15 Faaker see 2015

We have arrived and checked into our apartment in Budapest and already had an afternoon sight seeing. It's a lot larger than we had amagined and a lot of the sights aren't within walking distance of each other so it looks like Bertha will be joining us tomorrow. We had planned for 3 nights but will probably only do 2 as it's another thing we are not keen on. Big cities, Beer tents and loud music with a load of hairy arse bikers ( one is enough to for Pam).

Bertha is well top heavy and glad there were no tight bends today

Wednesday 16.09.15 Faaker see 2015

What did I say yesterday we didn't like big cities, well after a good nights sleep we have seen Budapest in a different light. As planned we took Bertha along on our tours which was great as we could park right at the entrances to our planned stops ( footpaths, side streets all without a ticket ). Today we have visited the Fishermans Bastion, St Stevens Basilica, House of Terror, Hungarian Parliment, Budapest Harley and the highlight was Szechenyi Thermal Baths which was fantastic. There were 3 outside pools and about 20 indoor pools all with varying temperatures + saunas and steam rooms so we have both come back nice and refreshed and will be stopping for the 3rd night.

Thursday 17.09.15 Faaker see 2015

The weather forecast was 30 degrees so it was a quick ride round this morning for a few snap shots and back to Szechenyi Thermal Baths for another chill. I booked a 30 minute massage, and took abit of extra cash to see if they did extras and was gutted to find I had a bloke ( I reckon I will have a better chance in Prague at sticky vicky's )

Some of the buildings are fabulous
Vajdahunyad Castle
Millennium Emlekmu
This is a cafe

Ps Budapest is a very nice city and would come back again when it was cooler to take in more of the sights and museums. TomTom Jane struggled as most of the streets are one way with plenty of dead ends so it could take you 15 minutes to cover 1/2 a mile.

Friday 18.09.15 Faaker see 2015

We had planned to ride to our next destination in the Czech Republic today but decided on Vienna back in Austria so we could collect some more loo tokens. I've noticed in Hungary and Czech Republic there isn't much in the way of scenic routes so the only option is the motorways which obviously does get you to your destination faster but it's not as enjoyable. As we have had only the afternoon in Vienna we did manage to squeeze in a couple of sights.

Checked in and off to Supermarket for our tea and liquid refreshments

Saturday 19.09.15 Faaker see 2015

Had a nice ride to Prague. Jane took us on the motorway and then detoured us to some nice roads which took you through villages and country side which mainly were growing corn on the cob, sunflowers and squash. We have now checked into a nice hotel in the heart of the old town which is within walking distance of most of the sites, so Bertha can have a day off tomorrow. Already had a good mooch round and bought a few T shirts and found a kebab shop a 100 yrds away so that's tea sorted for tonight.

Sunday 20.09.15 Faaker see 2015

Had a full day sight seeing starting with the Astronomical Clock and then onto Powder and Henry's towers, before heading back over the river to Petrin tower and Prague castle. It's amazing how many places you can visit in one day. We even had time for a 1 hour boat trip and then watched a man perform his magic show in the main square. As all the buildings are very close together you can never get a good shot with the camera but can get better ones looking down.

That completes week 3 and hope you enjoyed it as much as we have. Thanks again to all those that have commented and if you want to see what we get up to in week 4 then click on newer posts on the bottom left.
